HACKATHON AT ECDHM 2025!

Do you want to know what artificial intelligence, data science and other technological innovations can do for your blood establishment? Are you joining us at the ECDHM in Wijk aan Zee? Submit your problem to the ECDHM and work together with Artificial Intelligence and Data Science students in designing a solution!

Why this workshop?

In the age of ChatGPT, we've all heard the buzzwords: artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science analytics, large language models, robots and virtual reality. It is difficult to understand how these techniques can improve donor management and health, unless you are an expert. So at ECDHM2025, we want to give you the opportunity to explore what AI can do for you, by hosting a “hackathon” (an interactive workshop), where a group of dedicated Artificial Intelligence and Data Science students will design a potential AI or data science solution to your problem!

Interested? Submit your pressing problems!

Submit 1 to 3 relevant and high-priority problems that you or your blood establishment is dealing with before May 1st? This can be anything ranging from blood donor recruitment and retention, to donor health and management, to transfusion optimalisation. Problems that fit the conference theme “Sustainability in Donations” are preferred.

What happens next?

Groups of students from the Bachelor and Master Cognitive Science & Artificial Intelligence and Data Science for Society programs can register to your problem. If they pick your problem, they will design a possible solution during the conference. All solutions will be pitched in a competition at the end of the conference.

What do we ask from you if you submit your problem(s)?

In the weeks prior to the conference, dr. Elisabeth Huis in 't Veld (Sanquin/Tilburg University) will prepare the students by guiding them in finding the relevant background information, allowing them to start the workshop at a running pace. We therefore ask you to be available through email prior to the conference. Dr. Elisabeth Huis in 't Veld will coordinate the communication between the students and you. Furthermore, we would like you to be actively involved during the conference, by regularly visiting and brainstorming the students that are present on-site (with their teams available online).
